Overcoming Issues Faced When Traveling With a Pet.

Traveling is fun, even more so when you have a pet as your travel buddy. Going on trips with your furry friend can pose a few issues, but hey, look at the brighter side; you’ll have one heck of a time if you manage to overcome those issues. So what are those issues that pet parents face while traveling with their fur babies? Also, how can one overcome such issues? Well, read on as we plan on unraveling them for you.

Traveling By Car

For some pets, traveling in a car can be frightening, especially if they haven’t traveled in one before. It is important to stay calm and help your buddy get acquainted with the car surroundings before hitting the road. Apart from that, some other car issues faced by pet parents are listed below.
  •  Peeing on the car seat.
  • Looking outside the car window and barking excessively.
  • Scratching the car seats and destroying all the car interiors.
  • Car fear or motion sickness.
To overcome such car issues, it is very important to train your dog well. Training him can go a long way in keeping him well behaved during car journeys. Teaching him the ‘no’ command can help prevent him from doing the things he shouldn’t be doing. As far as motion sickness is concerned, such an issue can only be rectified by continuous practice. Every day for a brief period, allow your munchkin to spend some time in the car. As days go by, you can start the engine to help him get accustomed to the noise. This will help him to get acquainted with car surroundings so that you and your buddy can take that long road trip you have been craving for with ease and no hindrances.

Traveling By Plane

As you know, traveling by plane with your pet has a few rules and restrictions. While there is all the excitement of going and visiting a new place, the journey can be troublesome for you can your fuzzy friend. Some of the issues pet parents are up against during their travels via a plane are as follows.
  • Only pets weighting below 20 pounds are allowed in the cabin of the plane.
  • The number of pets allowed on a plane differs from airlines to airlines.
  • Frequent bathroom breaks on flights that are of long durations.
  • There’s always the worry factor of not seeing your pet when you choose to fly your pet in a cargo hold.

Rules are rules and we cannot do much about it. All we can do is, seek alternatives. Some airlines have a restriction on the number of pets allowed, so carefully check before booking your flight. Moving on, only small pets are allowed in the cabin area that too in a carrier. On the other hand, larger pets have to travel in a cargo hold. This might worry you because during the whole duration of the flight you will not get to be with your pal. But worry not; you may persuade the flight officials to at least allow you to see your buddy during loading and unloading (cargo hold). It will somehow lessen your worries. And as far as bathroom breaks are concerned, there are two options you can consider. Option one – use potty training pads for an easy clean-up process. Option two – do not feed your pal anything four to six hours prior to your flight departure.
Traveling with a pet is always fun, but make sure to prepare for the journey well in advance (especially for flights) to avoid conflicts. Moreover, never ever hesitate to speak up (traveling via a flight) with the manager if you suspect mishandling of yours or someone else’s pet. Travel safe, travel easy!
